Are we that shit? I know we're shit but...

Cambridge?

Wonder if he'd signed if Wellens hadn't told him to do one?

Do you get the feeling Wellens really didn’t want him. Difficult to openly say that with the fans’ player of the year.

Him not staying does not surprise me. Him choosing Cambridge this early in the summer is mental though. Seriously, just wait.

In Calderwood's quote it talks about KK having the drive to play at the highest level possible, yet he's signed for the club who finished 21st in the FL last year, and who are widely expected to struggle again this year.

One possible explanation - a completely under-the-radar personal choice that trumps everything else. Missus at uni there or something?

It's not like there's a chasm between us and Cambridge... we didn't beat them last season.  Probably just offered a bit better deal and perhaps if Knoyle still lives in London maybe easier to get to.

Further Cambridge probably realise if they want to stay in Div 4, they need players of Div 4 quality.... like Knoyle.

I think there is a lot to do with that. Knoyle is a great defender, but he did nowhere near enough going forward. I just don’t think he truly fitted with how Wellens wants to play. If he did we would have done more to keep him.

Quite. If he left for a team higher up then fair enough, but WTF?

I'd never begrudge a player going on to better themselves, but fucking Cambridge.

I genuinely don’t think Wellens wanted him. He played both Carroll and Wolf ahead of him at times this season.

More likely Wellens gambled on squeezing the budgie, by making Knoyle a lesser offer hoping to use the savings elsewhere, the gamble being no-one else would be interested. I'd imagine Conroy is similar, and it appears no-one else is interested.

Once it goes wrong its sign a kid, like a Knoyle 2 years back, cheaper.

maybe, perhaps then saying that we offered him a new contract, etc, was spouting rubbish.

I get he probably wants more of an attacking wing back.

As you can tell this had proper pissed me off.

Shame he didn't find a better club higher up the league but he had his reasons which we are not privvy to, good luck to him but you could have got better IMO.

I don't think Wellens was much of a fan and probably told him he would not be 1st choice RB this season coming and would have to fight it out with the new signing. Hopefully Wellens has another RB target as we can't go into the season with just one RB, now get some left backs in.

True, he did seem reluctant to play him at times.
