Rovers fans have come to the same conclusion as us.
Rovers want him off the wage bill, but not let go on the cheap
We want him but not at the wage level he is on now
Conclusion: Rovers will pay up his contract (or whatever Bennett will accept) so we can sign him.
Personally, I’d prefer if all this talk was kept in-house and not played out in public.
If it was you’d be looking at porn now wouldn’t you?

I'd be happy if Bennett is a Town player at the start of the season. He had some stinkers but was often the best of an ok bunch in the run-in.
However, if Wellens wants to play two up top, where do folks think Bennett would fit in if Doughty and Anderson are vying for a place, particularly as Bennett wasn't keen on a wide role at Rovers? Could Bennett and Doughty work in the middle of a 442?

Again, we need flexibility. Sometimes 2 up top. Sometimes one. Sometimes a diamond. Sometimes wingers.

Ideally, yes. But can we afford a flexible squad? I think Bennett would work well as a point of a diamond (as would Doughty) but I don't think he'd be as effective as a winger. If the budget could stretch to bringing him in as well as an out and out winger, then great. The non-flexible side of things need to take priority in my opinion - defence, workhorse midfielder and striker/s need sorting before getting in another creative/attacking midfielder. Still, like I mentioned before, I'd be happy if he was part of the squad.

Bristol Rovers Debt to Dwayne Sports up 4.655million to 13.229 million.
A middling club they may be, but their debt is eyewatering.
All this ‘Bristol Rovers will have to help to get the transfer over the line’ sounds like an opening gambit from Wellens - if you want a high earner off your books you’ll need to be flexible.
My thoughts exactly, took it as we want him and will take him if you pay him off as he would earn less here

Presume things will hot up after the weekend as most players’ contracts expire on 1 June.
The silence regarding Conroy and Knoyle is deafening.

I was thinking that yesterday actually about that 1 June date and was going to post something about it. I don't really need to now, but I have done anyway!

Well Hunt today is emphasising the importance they're placing on pre-season prep, so with that in mind you'd want the bulk of your squad in place by about the mid summer solstice, so a little over 3 weeks. It's desirable that this happens, and would be a good indicator that Wellens is on top of the job.

Did you not say something like this both last year and the year before? Not criticising, just pointing out that, although this is important, it was not followed well before.

So, basically, it's best to be as prepared as possible? Next we'll be told that signing players that can score goals will improve our chances.
Oh, wait...

tbf, given how the last two seasons have gone suggests he might have a point. Although I strongly suspect that whatever target date Wellens has in mind to get the majority of his squad in by, he's not referring to it as "Mid Summer Solstice"

No. Wellens is definitely an Estival Solstice kind of guy.

Changing the subject, listened to a podcast with Bury’s Nicky Adams. Very complimentary about Wellens. Also thinks Ben Futcher is a cunt, left him a voicemail pissed up after getting promoted calling him a bully and a bottler and such like. Most amusing if you listen to it, its easy enough to find.
Adams wont be coming here, just didnt know where else to post it

I heard it on Twitter. 'Futch' definitely isn't on Adams' Christmas Card list for sure!

Before Christmas, I also went to Stonehenge for the winter solstice. Swindon had just beaten Tranmere 5-0 and I waited until 4am before going there to see the sunrise Perhaps Wellens should try it....
