I've been on the phone to ED's Dad, he mentioned that Jewell engineered the move after Wellen's mentioned his name in an annual 'PTTCNM' (Potential Transfer Target & Contract Negotiation Meeting), along with Noel Hunt, who was best man for Doyle. They also played together at Portsmouth two years ago; where they were promoted as champions.

All joking aside, the core of the links between the players/manager/etc is true. Jewell - Braford link, Wellens - Previously managed him, Hunt - Played with him.

Quite a few 'jobs for the boys' signs in this appointment. If it happens - his Dad is 90% certain it'll happen  Pint

Read that 3 times and still trying to work out the jokey bits from the real bits.

Doyle would definitely be the potential 20 goal a season striker we don’t need

Sorry, I don't do slapstick. Dry as a Nun so many of my 'jokes' go over people's heads. Isn't that the point of high sarcasm though - it's meant to go over certain heads. Nice intentional ignorance though Hans  Wink

so he's in contact, playing for a club in the same league...

not saying never, looks a good player, but he must really have to hate it in Bradford to move..

Some Bradford fans saying he got no service last season, needs a big fella alongside him and a winger/s to get crosses in.

I’d imagine Taylor and Richards wages would be more than enough to pay his salary.

Doyle has one golden season on his CV at Chesterfield, when he got 20+ this got him a move to Cardiff then in Div 2, he couldn't cut it at that level.   His average trawl per season, at 31, is 11. That would be handy for us, as perhaps Wellens would know how to up that a bit to the 15/16 mark.

24 in 67 at his last 2 clubs - not too shabby in higher leagues.

My dodgy maths says 59 in 156 games in lower 2 leagues as well.

Pretty good

Hence the word potential, his lower leagues goals/game ratio proves that if you keep him fit for a full season there is potential for a 20 goal season.

Yep, Doyle could be a realistic target, and given his record could be a potentially useful acquisition.  Now we just wait and see how realistic, given he's still under contract at Bradford,

What type of striker is Doyle? Could he play up front on his own in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1? Need someone who can hold the ball up.

From the Bantams forum.

Rumours Swindon after Doyle? Not sure why he’d go there.

I think Doyle will do a job next season in league 2 when played correctly. However for his apparent 5k wage I wouldn't be bothered if he left and we could sign 2 strikers for that money.

Doubt he’d get more than what he’s on here, even after relegation reductions at Swindon.

The selling/releasing club will often do a deal with a departing player to help make up for the wage difference. It is usually beneficial for them to do so if it means they still make a saving on salaries overall.
