Didn't Wellens make some joke at the Sponsors event which has given it legs?
tbf it had long since taken on urban myth status by that point anyway

I suspect the joke was made 'because' the urban myth existed. I like to think that some of the players and staff go on that site and choose to wind them up. I know I would.

I know some players look at this site, or certainly have done in the past. I also know that BBC radio Swindon commentators regularly read this forum too before games.

Jack Bridge interesting Swindon and Crewe I'm told. Sam Foley a possible for Cheltenham or Newport. The rest of Northampton's released players might find a FL contract tough to come by.

Which players?
I am not going to put their names up on a public forum, but I have shared the names with many TEFers in private.

I see Gareth Barry has been told he is free to leave WBA.....he has a few connections with the club.

Most clubs announcing their retained and relased players this week, a few decent ones.

Jake Buxton, Kyle McFadzean or John Brayford  freed from Burton and all could improve us defensively IMO, Ben Gladwin from Blackburn, Akinfenwa from Wycombe.

I've a funny feeling Akinfenwa may show up at the CG.

Would expect the Burton trio to stay in League 1. Presumably being released because they're a hangover from the Championship season. Brayford is their captain I think.

Oh I know most are pie in the sky, I would love Akinfenwa hes old and slow as a slug but he is a great target man and can still get 20 a season in this league with a decent service, he scares defences but holds the ball up so well.

I’d have Semenyo from City in a heartbeat. Clayton Donaldson would do well in L2.

I think we tried to sign Craig Noone a while back.

Nathan Thompson anyone?

If Knoyle doesn't sign I would have Thompson back definately.

We tried to sign Donaldson when he was at Brentford but his wages were too high, not a great scoring record in the last 2 years with just 6 goals 57 games but prior to that he was excellent.

We did try and sign Noone many years ago when he was at Plymouth but he went to Brighton instead, cracking left winger but is probably far too good for L2 even at the age of 31.

Worth noting that the above isn’t a retained/released list, but a list of those with contracts expiring this summer. I expect several of those to remain with their current clubs.

Eros Pisano would be a great signing. If not for all of the right reasons.

A few STFC old boys in that list.

Obika anyone?
