Dunno about marquee, but a cask marque signing in the form of a Steve Foley type would be great.
Work hard, play even harder!
Could do with another Lou Macari Renaissance.

The Macari mantra was fitness.
Lincoln this season have been similar.
If we get players fitness levels up and actually find a player who can deliver a decent corner, take a good free kick and have a couple of centre backs that can attack a ball at corners and set peices then you will do well in this league.
Get a decent target man type who you can knock longer balls up to and they will win most of them, like Luton had with Danny Hylton and Lincoln have with Akinde, then match him to a quick striker who can grab you 15-20 goals playing alongside then you will win the division.
At the moment we have none of those type of players in the side. No free kick specialist (Taylor has been rubbish this season when he has played) we have no decent corner taker. We have no long throw specialist, we have no centre back or striker that will attack those type of balls either.
When Wellens says he wants a marquee signing I think he is hinting at a striker. But do we have the financial backing to get a good striker? Someone like Hylton/Collins/Akinde/Doidge/Marquis but I doubt any of them would drop to our level or that we could even get close to matching their large wages.
Its horses for courses in this league, you can play as fancy football as you like but you need a side who will do the simple things well like defending as a unit, making the most of set peices and having a striker or 2 who know where the net is, something we havent done in many years.

Actually I see Luton are not going to extend Danny Hyltons contract in the Summer and will release him.
he would be ideal, bradford and Mansfield are after him so I doubt we would have a chance really.

Depends if he still lives locally. If he does then we might have a shot Rose, Hylton, maybe Carroll. That'll go down well.

Probably be someone like Lee Angol. Scored a few goals and been quite highly rated in the past but career has stalled a bit.

Lee Angol certainly isn't a marquee signing like Hylton would be.

We need a goalscorer. Angol's career stats suggest he doesn't tick that box.

Not with Chalkies.... I'm out for another season as Luke mc has signed for another year. We do seem to have a recent fascination on signing scummers. I'm staggered most fans accept it. It should never be acceptable.

So while I concur that Macari used fitness as a foundation, the rest of your post goes on to highlight skill sets and players who fit those skills. My comment encapsulated the whole rather than parts. I kind of hoped in a way that the De Casio era could have done that same. Back to Macari he did back to back promotions on a shoestring, so it can be done. Further more the early signings like Calderwood ended up going for big money in the PL, to our detriment is has to be said.

Doesn’t sound like Doughty is going anywhere soon - wants to stay and is fed up moving about.
Great news!

Whilst I agree that is good news that he intends to stay, if Sunderland, Hull or any other higher league admirer comes along with a bid of £100k+ then I am certain he would leave, especially if it is closer to his home. Yes on paper it sounds good, in actuality I doubt its a promise that he could keep 100% as no player at this level would turn down a money move to a team in a higher league. Money talks.
