In rugby parlance the "pretty boys" are the halves, centres and wingers, who don't get involved so much in the "grunt" therefore avoid cauliflower ears etc.

Perhaps PB sees it a bit like when you picked up sides in the playgrouind, we're now on the last picks, which tended to be the less rigged kids.  He is a Sand-dancer.... I'd imagine Souith Shields schools were 10 years behind, some parts of the country.

I heard the "pretty boys in the playground..." comment by PB on the wireless. It actually sounded to me like he was being tongue-in-cheek. To me, the comment purely refers to the players who aren't necessarily wanted by many others up the football food chain. PB is being purely honest about the reality of targets to be obtained at L2 level. In this instance, I think he's done well so far, to pick a few needles out of several haystacks.

With regards to the ‘pretty boys’ i reckon it is players that thought they are too good to go anywhere and are now in the shit because the havent found a club

Scott Golbourne released by Bristol City would fit the bill

"We're investigating every option we can. He's impressed in the last week in a trial. There's a slight possibility."

I read that as they like him, but there's other stuff (transfer windows?) in the way.

I should think it's more that if he's come all this way, he's got a few trials lined up, and on the evidence of what PB has seen, someone's likely to offer him something.

It's down to transfer windows. PB has since said so himself.

So, if this is a window, when does it shut? I thought clubs could sign free agents any old time.

I don't know what he means by the last bit.

Seems like a roundabout way of saying footballers who were free agents before the transfer window closing are still available.
