Norwich were sniffing around Sadlier in the summer. Not sure why announcing this now is a good idea, though.

Either adver speculation, or it's already been done in a pre-deal.

They all say that when they want rid of a player. LOI is like our Sunday League.
He doesn't play for Sligo anymore.

Collectively probably, but amongst the teams, are some very good individual players dotted around.
yeah, some people have picked up some great players and good bargains

but even on average of it's league 1 it's good enough for us to get an average player!

LoI attendances are pretty much like the top half of Confeernce South.

Which is kind of irrelevant as to the standard of football.

Ireland as a country is small and football is probably their 4th most popular sport, behind Hurling, GAA and rugby Union. The infrastructure in the country isn’t as good as England for travelling fans either.

I would say league 1/2 standard is probably about right. A few years ago Dundalk gave some decent sides in Europe a bloody nose and Irish teams are never embarrassed in Europe.

As others have said, there are some gems to be picked up from over there.

Apart from the fact that 3/5 of LoI players have to take a second job, as there isn't enouigh money generated to pay decent wages. Much like players here in Conference South.

Doesn't necessarily mean that there won't be the odd good player about....

But again, pay will be lower as the money coming in is lower.  Doesn't the Championship have higher attendances than loads of top leagues around the world?  I',m pretty sure Bristol City would get a dicking from PSG.

Lets be honest, very few of us a clue.  Some gems come out of the league and end-up straight at Prem or Championship clubs, others never get a move across the sea.

You may be mixing up the Irish Premier League with the LoI.  Historically the north has always been the football hotbed. In the RoI football is 3rd behind Gaelic Football and Hurling in popularity... who are these player who've gone from the LoI to the top 2 Divs in England?

Hang on a minute.

We as a club have spent the most part of our time in the bottom two tiers of the FL. Have we not produced at our level players who have gone on to play top flight football? Have we not plucked players from relative obscurity and propelled them onto the top flight either via another club or directly?

The 92 teams collectively have around 2700 players that make up the squads give or take. Then you roll down into the lower leagues and this increases with PT players. Bundle in the many kids/youngsters who at the end of each season get dropped from academies and youth teams? Some give up altogether others try again in ROI, NI the welsh league etc.

As fas as i’m concerned I don’t give a fuck who they are or where they come from, it’s up to the clubs management to make an informed decision as to where these ‘lesser’ players come from. There has to be a reason for their arrival at SN1. If they make it great, if they don’t, well they don’t. The path to glory is not an easy one.

A lot of them who end up in England, get scouted as kids playing in youth football and are then brought over into Academies. Someone like Shane Long... played 1 game for Cork.

Seamus Coleman probably the best example but there have been a steady stream of decent talent from ROI
