Anton Ferdinand must be a realistic target. Sure somebody has previously said Southend have said he is free to leave & he wasn't in their squad yesterday. Not sure if he's injured though.

He’d fit the bill. A quick google doesn’t bring up any article suggesting he is injured, but I did find a BBC article about him receiving a driving ban in which it states he earns £690 a week...just shy of £36,000 a year excluding bonuses. I’d have thought he’d have been on treble that.

As if... That's come from his lawyer, so your treble comment is probably nearer the mark

Wage is probably right, clubs get round a few things now by paying in bonuses instead of salarys. Steve Evans surprisingly enough started that trend at Crawley

Back in the 60's after Jimmy Hill's campaign had seen the abolition of the maximum wage policy, players got bonuses, mainly for winning but also for the crowd being over a certain level.... here's why Town did well because crowds were high, so the players were by the standards of the day starting to be well paid.

In the legendary Six Days til Saturday, you can see Maurice Owen, doling out the pay packets.   Back then, there was something wholly satisfactory about receiving your pay in cash in a little brown wage envelope.

There might be a few jobs where that still happens....

I think there's still quite a few football clubs where money is handed over in brown envelopes. Anywhere Harry Redknapp's involved, for starters

Ryan McGivern was an international footballer... as was Marko Tuomela. Neither much use.

Micah Richards?

Still only 30. Fitness might be a problem.
