Bbc Wilts.

Doughty signing for us
Great signing. If we'd managed to keep hold of Preston we'd be looking a lot stronger. Still need a couple of quality CB's (in the Doughty/Diagouraga mould in terms of quality) & maybe some genuine full back cover rather than shoehorning the likes of Dunne/Iandolo in & we'll be good to go. I don't think a striker is as much of a priority as everybody else seems to think. Hopefully PB can tap into the obvious talent that both KA & KW have to supplement Richards, when fit & Adebayo. Twine & Young will hopefully challenge with Pryce going out on loan I'd have thought.

Still really do not see what Preston did last season for people to think he is do good. His first few games he was good but after that he was poor.

People got carried away because he was our best defender last year which really wasn't hard

SM, at 39 still young. Could do a job as cover if required. Wink

Hopefully the ink on his contract will be allowed to dry this time around.

He was quality & we were far less solid after he got injured. Didn't give Akinfenwa a kick at the CG which is about your toughest test as a L2 CB. Admittedly lacked pace but if he had that he'd be a top end L1 defender. Anybody who thought we didn't miss him clearly didn't watch many games last season.

I agree, was always out of position so 'looked good' when making last ditch recoveries. Still was better than the rest we had though.

I hope we find someone to replace such an "average" player.

wish we had a couple more average defenders like him

With Preston we conceded 28 goals in his 21 league games at a rate of 1 .3 a game..... without Preston in the other 25 we conceded 37 goals at a rate of 1.48 a game.  Therefore, as most empirically got, we were better with him in than out.

I am not saying he was piss poor just not as good as our fan base seem to have us believe. He is average, we are league 2 it's what the level of player is down here.
