Its suddenly looking much more optimistic, but yup, two massively key positions to fill.

I think Doughty will strengthen us, but have we got too many midfielders now??! Wonder if we will see an off or two..

I don't think so.  If we play 4-3-3 then the starting midfield trio will be Alzate, Toums and Doughty with Smith, McCourt and Iandolo in reserve.  Dunne will cover at right back.

Think we need to see a scarf shot first, but if you give yourself an option of 4 in midfield and you want 2 squad men for each slot, then you need 8 midfielders.  4 of whom should be central.... so MD and TD along with Smith and Dunne, woukld be the required 4.

Forgot McCourt.... still having strength in the engine room is never a problem.

Posh offered him to us previously but we said no we didn't want him. Doubt he will be annoyed he will know it is just business
I remember him being offered to us but that sentence didn't make any sence to me.

Let's wait til the scarf shot.... could be an agent playing STFC, in order to expedite a response from Oxford.

BBC Wilts sources are always within the club. Under Power, they've never been wrong with their understandings...

Michael Doughty's father was the late Nigel Doughty, a man of considerable means.  Michael Doughty was 1 year into a 3 year Peterborough contract and happy to tear it up.  I don't think money is a driving factor for Michael Doughty.  Would imagine that he'd rather play for a Southern club who try to play relatively decent football.  Can't imagine Steve Evans would have appealed.

Confirmation of someone and the away kit launch within the hour, according to official Twitter.

Doughty is also a very well educated person, that comes accross very well when he does interviews and when he was co comms for a couple of games 2 years ago.

He also did really enjoy his time with Swindon and says so very openly and wanted to stay but when the offer of playing a division higher with Peterborough came about then of course he took it over us.

Yes, I really like him.  Delighted he's coming back (fingers crossed).

 Hmmm

Here's what I thought on the matter a couple of years back.....

" I was interested to listen to Doughty when he was interviewed on Friday, I was expecting to hear the effortless elocution of privilege, but didn't, just footballer speak.  Michael obviously gets the need for using Bernsteinian restricted code in post match interviews.

STFC footballer's alma maters isn't a specialist subject of mine, very much a niche subject like deceased player's burial sites.

However I'd hazard a guess that Michael may be unique, in not only being Old Harrovian, but public school of any sort.

We've had a few with university degrees......Dave Bamber, Iffy, and Stef Miglioranzi spring to mind. I'm sure there are others. "

Interesting, I thought he came over very well, well educated and fairly eloquent, certainly for a footballer.

Possibly looking back it could just be that he was a good contrast to the dull monotones of Hockaday and other footballers who interject every sentence with "you know what I mean" or such like, something that could not be levelled at Doughty.

Good signing. Good news, but I wonder what Smith and McCourt think about all this. Fancy playing centre back chaps?

Maybe they were signed under the premise of being squad rotation players rather than first team regulars.
