Simon Cox!

I'm told Simon Cox has been at the CG this week to discuss a possible return to STFC .

Oh, I had a look on their forum a few weeks back and got the impression he was happy there.

Brown does seem to be popular as a manager, which might raise a few surprises.

He is a big fan of PB's he stated that in an interview after PB was sacked, Southend have offered him quite reduced terms on the new contract.

There may be nothing in it, in the end, but I am surprised by the lack of news about Cox re-signing. It does make me wonder whether his face doesn’t fit for some reason?

According to the Southend forum again, they don't think he will drop to L2, he is a very good player and would be quite a catch if we did get him.

Wordsworth would not want to drop to L2 and like Timlin will want to stay in the general area if he can as very settled.

I know that some of our fans have an obsession with signing ex-players. On the other side of the coin, though, others seem to have an obsession with NOT signing players for no other reason that they have played for us before. Cox would be a good signing at this level, regardless of his history with us.

Well a few Saarfend fans dont think there is any chance of either signing for us so based on that its a given they will sign this week Cheesy

Cox could be a superb signing at this level and the only other ex player I would like to see come in would be Ince, otherwise I would rather we try and sign some totally new players with no connection to us.

I guess with a lot of fans its the "better the devil you know" feeling.

Wordsworth would be a great signing, some of the Saarfend fans think Anton Ferdinand may be coming to us after his release.

You don't sign a player just because he's played for the Club before but similarly you don't NOT sign a player on that basis either. It's not really a consideration other than you know them as a person and what they are capable of.

Cox and Wordsworth if we can get them would be extremely solid signings in addition to McGlashan. And of course the pun merchants (about 90% of the forum membership it would seem) would have a field day with Wordsworth... Roll Eyes

He's not the same footballer as we enjoyed back in 2008 but Simon Cox should still be tremendously useful in L2.
