I have no problem with selling players for a profit or for an amount greater than their perceived value. What does concern me though is that, with play-off/transfer-fee revenue, a disproportionately small amount will only be allocated towards bolstering the squad. Finding unpolished gems relies on luck rather than judgement. We may acquire several new players during the close season....what if they're all George Barkers ?

That's why I think we should sign an experienced keeper and at least 2 or 3 other experienced players.

Lets see who the first one in is, before we start making assumptions.

Absolutely correct. Or the first 2 or 3. We've been consistently surprised this last season or so. Patience is a virtue....an attribute not upheld so much in contemporary society.

So if Clough was sacked on monday and the bid was in and accepted before then and the player knew about it, its hardly ideal prep for the play off final is it?

I don't think he will

I think he might, but he may not.

I'm getting the hang of this rumours thing.

They agreed a fee of 600k with Sheffield United for Michael Smith before Clough got sacked!
That's blinding money for Smith.

Not going to happen. The sooner we all realise this the better. We'll spend money in small amounts on good young players that should improve in value. Much more change of signing a George Moncur than, say, Stephen Dawson who's just gone to Scunthorpe.

And that's the way it should be too.

Re Smith -  as much as I like him, fully expect Obika and Hylton to be front-line strikers. 600k for him is great value. Spend 25% of that on his well-scouted replacement. It's what we do now.

At 26 he is probably a bit old for us.
