I don't understand why any bid would be difficult to turn down.

He'll still be worth the same come the summer

Teams pay a little more in January if they are pushing for a trophy or some kind of achievement but the difference wouldn't be massive.

I suspect the main factor for selling now instead of the summer would be is Mass said he wanted to go now, no noises of that kind so far thankfully

Yep, I just can't see why he would be desperate to go now as against the summer.

There's no huge benefit to him really

It suits both parties if he stays. I'm just saying there is an element of risk for Power if Mass suffers a serious injury between now and the end of the season.

Swift and Luongo are anything but like for like though?

Maybe not in terms of the way they play, but they are in where they play - i.e. the attacking mid in front of the 2 holding mids.

Not a lot of value in us selling for £2mill now - by the time Spurs take £400k plus 40% and Power takes his amount, there's prob only £400k going to STFC from the deal

Mass's comments to an Aussie magazine sound like good news as well:

http://www.goal.com/en-au/news/4019/transfer-zone/2015/01/30/8434112/luongo-linked-with-sevilla

It's not to a local news outlet in Swindon, so it's not like he's just saying the right things to keep the fans sweet, it sounds more like he doesn't fancy Spain or Turkey.

Imagine sacking off La Liga for (for example) Brentford.

Perhaps interest from the mainland might attract bigger English clubs?

Why would Spurs be taking £400k and 40%? If we paid £400k*, it's likely they take 40% of everything over the £400k we paid them.

*As I understood it at the time, and I'm sure this was said somewhere, it wasn't a fee of £400k, it was the cost of paying up his contract - essentially taking him free + 40%

From what I understand we are paying "up to" £400k so we have paid £100k up front and then any add ons could have to be paid as well as part of the total deal dependant on the contract.

But the fee of say £2m would still take into account the amount we paid for Luongo originally so its not that we have to pay it but that we have paid it, so its profit amount not overall transfer amount.

So in a £2m transfer we would be giving 40% of the £1.6m so we would get £1,360,000 in total (as long as we have paid the full £400k).

But if we have only paid the £100k up front then we could in theory only get £1,060,000 in total of the transfer, if Spurs want the full £400k paid of which we have only paid £100k so far (which is possible).
