Sam's transfer is to a new (& as yet unnamed) Swindon-based media venture - but he will still be covering STFC.  So unlikely that his difficult relationship with LP is a factor.

Andy Warren appears to be going too (also to a mysterious new media venture, presume the same one)...the Adver sports desk will have a few vacancies, can we get Ben in or is he still boycotting them after the Buff bods fiasco?

Stephens on the bench for Southampton, we could be waiting a while yet.

I don't think we will be seeing him here again this season. I just hope we haven't put all our hopes on landing him and we have other targets at the back...

They are off to work for The Link magazine I believe after it was bought by the guy who owns Excalibur Communications

Quote
Swindon Town Manager Mark Cooper has admitted that the Robins are now starting to focus their attention on other targets as the wait for Jack Stephens continues to drag on, with the centre-back included on the bench for Southampton's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool yesterday.

Town made Stephens their top target of the summer following the centre-back's hugely successful ten game loan spell at The County Ground in the latter stages of the 2013/14 season, with the 20 year-old putting in a string of stellar performances during his short stint at SN1.

However, Town have been frustrated in their bid to bring the defender back to The County Ground on a season long-loan deal for the 2014/15 campaign, with Stephens' inclusion on the bench for Southampton's 2-1 Premier League defeat to Liverpool on Sunday prompting Town Boss Mark Cooper to admit that the club are now starting to consider alternative targets.

"We start looking at other targets," Cooper said.

"We have other targets and we are pursuing them because if he (Stephens) is going to be on the bench for the first team, realistically we are not going to get him but I don't know."

Josh Lelan's initial month loan deal is due to expire after this weekend's clash with Crewe at The County Ground, and Cooper has revealed that no decision has yet been taken on whether to take up the option to keep the Derby defender at The County Ground for the remainder of the 2014/15 campaign.

Finally, Cooper also confirmed that there is still no progress on the club's pursuit of another striker, with the transfer window due to shut on September 1st.

We start looking at other targets? Shouldnt they have been doing this already?

I know it says we have other targets but why say we start looking? It comes across as if they had all the eggs in one basket

Saying that, there is a 100% chance of me being a mong and just minsterpeting the comment Cool

'looking' as in starting to consider their other targets instead. Of course they have checked out other players, otherwise why would they even be targets.

They wanted Stephens, thought they would get Stephens but now are having doubts so they switch their attention elsewhere.

What else were they supposed to do?

And personally, I reckon it might be a way to tell Southampton to stop fucking about and get on with it.

I expect it really should read 'looking towards' rather than 'looking at'

He couldn't even get a game at Forest Green when Hockaday was manager there.

He was a properly shit keeper, he could barely even catch a ball and his only game for us when Heaton got sent off at Boston. I remember he even used to struggle to kick the ball in warm ups, at Gillingham I think it was he just kept kicking the ball into the side netting when attempting to warm up Rhys Evans. He wasn't even first choice at Forest Green, Hockaday won't last long with signings like Bulman.
