Thinking about it, we've had a pretty sketchy record in getting talent from non-league.
Lou Macari would be the exception to the general rule....Peter Coyne came from non league, although he had league experience but fell out....Colin Gordon was a classic non league steal and Brian Wade did a job for a couple of seasons.
Paul Bodin almost fits the bill...he'd fallen to Bath City, just got back into the league at Newport when Macari signed him.
David Moss came from Witney Town....probably the best recentish player we got from local non league football. "Moss is God" was written on a back wall on the old temporary bus station in tall red letters, along with "Death to Rotherham", so I have to agree with the satement. Tony Gough, I think, arrived from Bath City, after his only league appearance for Bristol Rovers, over a decade earlier. |
