No, that's the wrong word. Recognition or acknowledgement I suppose comes in to it.

I just don't get it, now the whole world knows your brother's a mindless thug whereas presumably not many people were aware of this prior to yesterda? hardly something I'd want to publicise, personally.

It was a public show of love for his brother. If he wants to do that, then fine, but by the same token, if people want to now sing/shout abuse about said brother, then it's fair game.
