I think the catcher in the rye is a bit over-rated myself. I can see why people like it and see it as a bit of a classic, but I find it hard to get over the fact that the main character wasshisname is basically a bit of a knob. Whatever mental issues he has.

Whatever mental issues he has. i'll get back to you on that when i finish, though i quite like him so far. the embracing of solitude and matter-of-factness/bluntness about him rings true with me.

It was at least 3 years ago that I read it. It'd quite possible that I'm being a bit harsh on it. I might give it a reread at some point.
I remember reading The Buddha of Suburbia (by Hanif Kureishi) around the same time and enjoying it.
I've got a feeling I might have been going through the books one of my housemates had to read for her English course at the time. I think I read Lolita around the same time, although I don't remember much about it. Which seems odd.
Things from that long ago seem a bit vague now. I'm not sure my poor brain is up to all this remembering stuff.

I saw that. Nearly started a thread about it.
I'm guessing someone just used a thesaurus without checking for meanings.

Is that based on the film? I think the film is based on it. Good read though, can't help thinking I wish I'd read the book first as is so often the case.
