It was the spaces either side of the comma and excessively naive belief in pseudo-authorities to have complied with whatever arbitrary process they claimed to have concocted that flagged it up for me. But I don't think it actually was Gerald as the spelling was too accurate - but I wonder if it's a writing style common to all (ex-)coppers?
