A NEW County Ground era is set to start today with Andrew Fitton's consortium expected to finally seal their Town takeover.
After months of protracted talks, the Swindon Advertiser understand Fitton & Co have finally resolved their remaining issue with the tax man and will take sole charge from the start of next week.
It is understood Fitton and HMRC struck an agreement yesterday for the £3million debt owed by the football club, allowing them to complete their Swindon Town purchase.
A statement should be released around midday today to announce the completion of the takeover with Fitton and consortium partner Jeremy Wray expected to outline their vision for the club early next week.
Small bits of paperwork still had to be finalised as the Advertiser went to press last night but, after months of financial uncertainty, Town fans can finally look ahead to a brighter future.
The new owners will hope tomorrow's completion will see their transfer embargo lifted by the Football League, once all debts are cleared, and will result in the official appointment of Maurice Malpas as manager.
Fitton's consortium is believed to be worth in excess of £500million, with four people making up the group.
Dave Byrne and Ady Williams are expected to continue as caretaker managers for tomorrow's League One trip to Walsall, with Malpas officially unveiled as boss on Monday.
