Sony and Pinoneer make the best HDTV's

The oether producers eg Samsung are ok, but not as good imo.

My mum and dad are about to get some sony 46 inch tv for £3k.  Will post a link on here when i find it

This is mine:-

At the time the Woman in Currys told me that the best LCD TV's on the market are Samsung and LG. I asked if Sony were any good, she said that they were but as soon as they break down Sony don't want to know.

Oh and don't get a Plasma as the BULB has a habit of blowing after a year or so.

Don't ever get a Surround Sound System made by them, that is all.

Plasmas don't have bulbs. While they do have a limited lifespan and potential for screen burn things are a lot lot better now. The average user will get (IMHO) 7-10 years out of one.

A tip is to find the TV you want, in stock in any UK store of your choice (even empire direct , and other online co's  have real stores). Check the John Lewis website to see if they stock the item. Ring the local store (Cribbs) and get them to price match - you may have to pay for delivery, but you get a free 5 year guarentee.

Other than that, you have to work out whether you really need a full 1080 display or whether a 768 or similar will do.

The advantage of the former is you get the full HD detail of 1080 lines from a HD sorce that provides it. The disadvantage is that normal TV (SD) is 540 line (or 480 NTSC) so the telly has to 'guess' the lines inbetween to make up the picture (it still displays 1080 lines, 540 'real' and 540 interpolated). Etc. Etc.

I couldn't remember what the thing was inside them that was pretty dodgy and had a habit of blowing so i just called it a Bulb.  Cheesy

You've got to be careful. If you don't vent the plasma regularly then the relays can go offline. If you're unlucky you could end up with a warp core breach.
