Maybe, and yes.

The belt itself should be quite cheap, 20/30 quid tops. Fitting it on the other hand, not so depending on the car. I've never looked under the bonnet of a Megane, but being french I can quite imagine its a rats nest under there.

It cost me 30 bucks plus a crate of beer to replace my RAV4 cambelt a couple of months back. A mate with the right tools, an hour or two and a suitable bribe did the trick .

If it's a Phase 1 or Phase 2 with either the 1.4 or 1.6 engine it'll cost you no more than £80 at a decent independent.

If it's a Phase 1 or Phase 2 with a 2.0 engine then your looking at £200+ because they've got hydraulic tappetts which causes additional work to get to the cambelt.

If it's a newer Megane (the one's that look fucking awful IMO) then I ain't got a clue, but I'd guess they'd be pretty expensive too because they have VVT.

Whatever it costs to get it on your motor, it's a bloody sight cheaper than having it break whilst motoring along!!

Risking a cam belt failure certainly is certainly a game for the rich and stupid!
