was hoping Lancashire would pull off that remarkable run chase against Surrey and take the title, but there can be no complaints against Sussex deservedly taking it for the third time in five years. The cricketing culture there established by Peter Moores and continued by Mark Robinson and Chris Adams has really set the standards. Every player knows their roles and performs them superbly. Across all conditions I would back Sussex to beat any other first-class side in the world. You may look at other sides and see bigger names depending on international duty, but all great teams play far better than the sum of their parts and that is just how it is with Sussex.

In terms of spin bowling the 1st Division of the Championship must be the strongest domestic league in the world. In 2007 there were some brilliant spin partnerships:

Hampshire: Shane Warne & Shaun Udal
Lancashire: Muttiah Muralitharan & Gary Keedy
Sussex: Mushtaq Ahmed & Saqlain Mushtaq

Which I suppose makes Durham's success this year all the more remarkable with Breese and Wiseman sharing the twirling duties. However, there seam attack will stack up against anything: Gibson-Davies-Onions-Plunkett-Harmison is a Test quality attack and Durham have been fortunate that Davies was injured at the beginning and Harmison at the end that they didn't have leave one out too often.

I'm looking forward to seeing two of England's most promising leg-spinners getting a good run in the Championship next year, Mark Lawson of Yorkshire (who will be hoping for a dry summer to get in alongside Rashid's all-round talents) and Michael Munday of Somerset (who took 14 wkts @ 13 in his three Championship appearances this summer).

Oh and Ramprakash is still a machine.

sussex tore that durham attack apart at horsham this season, but i know what your saying.

next season is going to be really tough for sussex, we will lose wright and prior, yardy i imagine will get another chance and i can see nash getting a call up. not sure how much longer mushy can go on, so a lot of it is going to be down to the likes of liddle and rayner. plus a few of the youth team coming through.

i think we mayhave a relegation battle on our hands.

there's no chance nash or yardy will get an england call-up next year. maybe an england a call but i'd be surprised at that to be honest. there's simply much better players than yardy and players who have proved themselves more than nash has. i think he's yet to record a first-class ton isn't he?

I would imagine its not that impressive, after all they have to pay to keep Ian Blackwell in Ginsters, must cost a hell of a lot of money Wink
