I'm sure in 10 years time we'll have half the Portugeuse under-18's squad playing for us anyway so its all immaterial.

Seriously though, something needs to be done about this. All the fans who have hung around since '69 and the good days will be dead before long, and we need some fresh kids getting interested in Town early, and not fucking off to watch Reading because they get to watch Premiership football week in week out.

what that fails to mention is that swindon has many lads playing in age groups older than themselves,ie 10 year olds in the under 12s, 11 year olds in the u13s ect.oxford dont!
the coaches at stfc are trying to mould footballers for the future, the results are secondary to the boys footballing development.

oxford might be trying to deperately win games.swindon are trying to make footballers out of the lads.

That's the English poroblem isn't it.  With England's problems during the Euro qualifiers there has been much debate about letting kids just play football to hone their individual skills - there has been too much pressure put on kids to win from an early age and as such they are encouraged to be efficient and responible too early.

Other countries seem to allow flair to blossom and encourage lads to let their skill loose.

Hopefull this is what Swindon are doing - once lads are 15 or 16 then they can be encouraged to be a bit more disciplined and to worry about results more while still allowing them to express themselves.

More fool the pox for promoting false success...

Or something like that...

See, i disagree... I think in England kids are told all about how 'its the taking part that counts' etc. and all the competetive edge is removed when they are young. I mean in some areas, until a certain age, they dont publish league tables, so as not to upset the shit ones.

The difference in countries such as Australia and the U.S, is that winning is everything. Bollocks to taking part, sport is competetive. Certain countries breed and nurture that winning mentality and desire, whereas we do not.

Well in football maybe not. But throughout the world of athletics it is especially noticable. Then there is rugby, cricket, motorsport, tennis... all sorts.

Im sick of Reading and hope they go down, plastic cunts

I would love it!, love it! if those Plastic Cunt's got relegated.

They're in the Premier League and can't sell out every week, fucking wank support.

We were in the Premiership with a ground with a capacity about 8,000 lower and we didn't sell out every week either FFS!

However we did find we suddenly had several thousand more fans than we'd had for years.

This "plastic" thing gets on my tit's to be honest. Reading had fewer fans when in the lower leagues and playing at the shithole that was Elm Park did they? No shit! I think you might find our gates tend to fluctuate a bit depending on how sucessful we are on the pitch as well. I can't be arsed to look up the figures but I'm pretty sure Reading probably averaged about 7,000 or so when playing at this level. So if you're only a real fan if you've followed your team in the bottom two divisions they've probably got roughly as many as us. (Although where that leaves the likes of Liverpool, Spurs, Everton etc who haven't been out of the top flight for decades I don't know. They're all plastic I suppose.)

I've always had a certain respect for the way Reading went about things myself. They're not Franchise, nick somone elses club and try to graft it artificially onto the town; or Wigan, local millionaire spends a fortune on the ground and team and the local population don't really give a shit and keep going to wath Rugby League; they did it properly. Madjeski didn't just chuck money at the club, he's built it up gradually turning it into a proper business, growing the fan base organically over time, and keeping pretty much in the black.

We should be looking at the way they've gone about things and seeking to emulate their success. Bitching about them just makes us look jealous.
