It was Pop Idol (I think)

Pop Idol was Nigel Lythgoe. Cowell was (I think) successfully sued by him for ripping off the format, part of the settlement was to continue to judge American Idol for N seasons

No one stood out that much on this weeks show .. but I did like the 5 girls from 5 different countries or something like that ... one each from England, Wales Scotland and Northern Ireland I think

The x factor is ace. One of the only shows i watch on tv. obviously only the first few weeks though, it gets crap when they all start bumming each other.
