I reckon pills are the same as they've ever been. People complaining that they aren't as good any more are just looking for there first high again. As Redgewell says, the quality is going to vary. I can't imagine that was any different 10-20 years ago. Not that I know really, nobody ever wants to sell me any, I just pick stuff up for free.
It's a bit like the opposite of what's happening with weed. Old people go on about how it wasn't as strong in their day. Probably true if you're going for the dark sparrow spider super smelly stuff, but if you're average person who gets an 1/8th for £20 from a mate; then it's clearly not any stronger. It's just the older generation trying to excuse themselves for taking it when they were young, whilst at the same time telling youngsters they can't do the same.

Just to add to Red81's post, the best pills about at the moment are small, slighty red, stars. Last time i did some i took 2 and was absolutely spannered for well over 10 hours. They were fucking ace!

a bit of impurity in the old beans can be good if you want a messy high, md is a bit too controlled and focussed.
i had some chanels at the end of uni, best ones i've ever had.
skunk is definitely stronger now, due to the advanced growing techniques and chemicals used en masse in its cultivation. blow your head off stuff.

i really enjoyed mushrooms, the whole thing from picking too sitting in my room looking at the wallpaper with my mates for what seemed like endless hours. however the come down is a grinding 1 thought process.
