manatees are also known as 'sea cows'

whilst manatees are capable of swimming at speeds of up to 20mph, they often prefer to 'cruise' at a gentle pace of between 2-5mph.

West Indian manatees have no natural enemies, and it is believed they can live 60 years or more.

the average lifespan of a manatee is 60 years. eb wishes not to divulge his age because 'a gentlemen never tells'

The manatee's close brother, Steller's Sea Cows; could grow to be up to 8m long! Unfortunately they are extinct.

That one made me laugh. However I then realised the error of my ways and cried at the loss of eb's close brother.
