prior got 25 off 16 balls, that seems pretty quick to me?

prior is exactly the type of player yuo need in 20/20. county experience and an agressive batsman.

no point wasting time with someone like cook, a talented batsman in the longer form of the game but doesn't score fast enough for 20/20.

we didn't bowl terribly well but then monty should never have been left out, chasing a score of 200+ was always going to be tough and given our slight collapse we did well to get within 20 odd runs of it

tbh 20-20 games are almost a lottery in some ways. there is never a clear favourite and we didn't lose by that many in the end. you have to have a slow bowler in there though. they are vital in this form of the game

That's what I was saying - we play loads of 20/20 games in England, we know spinners win games, yet we only play Yardy who basically bowls medium pacers anyway. Nuts.

yes. the pace is the key thing. if you can get some quick bowlers to begin with and then slow it down with a spinner it often gets the batsmen into a false sense of security and they succomb to the variation. i think the stats may show that most 20 20 games are won by slow bowlers

Cook should never be playing in these 2 20/20 games, he's far too slow and you can't fuck about playing yourself in especially after the score the West Indies made.

Thanks for clearing that up.

It's still a competitive game that fans pay money to go and watch.

Shame we couldn't have won but like Rich says, it's a bit of a lottery. Also agree that slow-scoring batsmen are not suited to the game, and you definitely do need a bowler who can go in and really slow down the run rate, which is obviously usually going to be a spinner.

2nd game was good to listen to at work. Windies made 169-7 off their 20 overs. England won by 5 wickets with Shah making 55 of 35 and with 3 balls to spare.

what is interesting is that we only hit 1 maximum in our innings and still got to a relatively testing total of 173.

going forward i'd like to see james benning come in to replace cook as an opener. he's somewhat of a twenty20 specialist. he'll give the bowlers some stick, and is a better fielder than cook too.

we just need a couple more big hitters. prior, pietersen and collingwood appear to be the only individuals who play aggressive cricket.

trott did nothing of note in either of his innings, cook simply doesn't suit 20/20 but is worth persuing in the 50 over game, mascheranhas seems to have enough in his locker and shah provides a useful anecdote when slogging isn't an option.

someone like loye or ramprakash might be worth drafting in for the world cup. i'm not sure the game has the longevity to last another four years in fairness... benning is obviously worth a shout, no questions
