It's the largest Co-operative business in the world and owns a whole street of offices in Manchester. It controls interests in retailing, banking, insurance (CIS) , farming, travel, pharmacy, etc. It generates profits in the hundreds of millions each year, a percentage going back to its customers. It was the first retailer to get into fairtrade products and is a staunch supporter of ethical and responsible retailing and also spends hundreds of thousands each year on community projects.
