PC Worlds site has 256 (so I'd get two) going for £8 - anything wrong with them?

Well you have 512mb already. If you only have 2 slots for memory then 2 x 256mb = 512mb i.e. no point. If you have more slots for memory it could be worth a punt, but you need to make sure you can mix speeds etc. Use that Crucial tool to help you find this out.

RAM is quite cheap. But you need Bushey's plumber to put it in (actually you only need him to take the panels off the laptop, hey ho)

Depends on what PC you have. Go to http://www.crucial.com/uk/?gclid=CM_Iou7TwooCFSGZEAodVy0agw
use the tool to see what memory type you need and what your machine can handle.

The memory should come with instructions how to fit it, but it's always best to look at you manual to see wherebouts the slots for it are (something that Bushey didn't have).

I could to with upgrading my hacked together 550mhz, 384mb ram, 64mb Geforce(fuck knows which one I can't remember). Which started off life around the year 2000 and has none of the original parts remaining, not even the case. Crazy days.

It's not top priority though, and to be honest I'm quite fond of the old thing.

It's says mine can run 2GB of ram. Will it double my speed of my PC? Or will I not notice much difference? I have 512mb.

That would speed up your pc loads pip.

I've upgraded my laptop from 512mb to 1gb and it's sped it up. But now my hard drive hasn't much room on it it's slowed down again. Memory isn't the only thing that will speed your pc up. It just means that the computer can handle more things at once without having to temporarily write them to the hard drive (page file)

Also, that site. Is it 100% correct on which ram they say you should buy. I mean the ram they recommend, does it have the right type, pins module. Isn't there 3 different pins types of ram?

How much does more RAM cost, worth it? is it easy to put in?

For another 512mb your looking at about £50 depending on where you go.

It's piss easy to install, just pop the lid off the PC, whack the RAM into the motherboard and that's it!

where the fuck do you buy your PC bits from

i just purchased another 2gig Ram 667mhz DDR2 for £90 off Dabs.
£50 for 512 seems a bit extreme
