I see the Specials are opening their tour next year at the Oasis on 31st August, still very good live but a real shame that there are only 3 of the original 7 members left now.

Somewhat surprisingly, I'm now going to a gig on Friday night. Test event limited to 400 in a venue that would normally hold far more, all sorts of guidelines in place including no singing. We'll have to see how it goes!

Enjoy, all involved (as a punter Nemo and  I assume Sax are you working on it?!).

I can't imagine the "no singing" working one bit though...it is part and parcel of the crowd dynamic for most gigs. Especially if the music we are viewing/listening to is one of our favoured artists. It's instinctive. Some acoustic sets granted require the more listening ear but if it's Frank Turner, from experience he likes to very much involve his audience.

Even at a Blossoms and also a Bear's Den gig at Rough Trade Nottingham (both acoustic sets) a couple of years ago, in front of just about 50 people, there was still a lot of singing.

No Im not working on it.  Im currently spreading my skills to data entry to keep me from going mad.  I know Franks Tour manager, Tre.  She's been working at a nightingale hospital since March.  Glad she's getting a little work.

Both of us have recently featured on a local music podcast (separate episodes) if you want to see people in the live music industry moaning.

Nice one, all round. I'll check it out. The name Tre rings a bell (although I could be thinking of someone else).

I think I'm set to appear on another poetry set tomorrow evening but not sure on what one(s) I'll read.

Yeah I'm guessing that rule may come under a bit of strain. Possibly some scaled up humming. Will be a unique experience at least...

Well that was very well done. The venue was a theatre but subdivided into perspex boxes for two, which made it about the most comfortable gig experience I've had. A bit like being in a posh box at the theatre (I assume anyway, just the cheap seats for me). The no singing along rule lasted about as long as the support bands, there was even a 'please tone it down' announcement at one point. Hopefully not too many problems caused for the venue, but live music without singing along feels impossible to restrict.

As for what was on stage, it felt like the right act at the right time. Very easy to go off Frank Turner for being a bit too earnest and on the nose with his song writing, but right now songs about all being good to eachother and getting through this seem like what we need.

Good stuff.
Clapham Grand was a good venue. Saw The Fall there a couple of times.
Sounds like a different place after the refurb.
Finding a way out of Clapham Junction station was always a personal challenge.

They had the upper circle open for the first time since 2005 to up capacity, but it was still only about 400. The economics of it can't be great, but it's a start.

Was due to see Peter Hook in May (Brixton).
Moved to January, which at the time was a case of ok fine, hope for the best.
Now been bounced to Jan 2022.

Not looking good for any gigs that were rescheduled for Feb / March time.

I assume all the musicians will have retrained to take new jobs as suggested by Sunak,by then.

Certainly us promoters, tour managers, production managers and road crew are probably going to dead or working asda by then.

The Damned, one off 45th anniversary tour next summer, original line up.  Eek
Ticket prices at the premium end to say the least, fair enough.
Hopefully it will go ahead before the 50th anniversary.

Really feel for those who were working in the live music industry.
Maybe a small crumb of comfort, but the market isn't going anywhere and will still be there ready to go when the doors open again.
