Ahh, the wonderful That Petrol Emotion- I saw them all over the place, although nowhere especially grand.  I remember them asking those gathered if anyone fancied standing in on drums once at Oxford Poly, and another time spending the entire gig at Subterrainia (?), worrying about the car parked under the Westway - not one of London's more salubrious areas.

Not a fan of big arena gigs.
But tonight, Nottingham, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
Thank you for making it seem as if you were playing in the front room.
An intensely moving and joyous experience. Extraordinary.

Was that at Glee Club WB?

I love Nottingham for intimate gigs, properly jealous I missed that!!

Motorpoint Arena. A bit wary of the big venue, but good acoustics.
A set of mainly the quieter material worked perfectly.

Yeah it's not bad in there. I always feel it would be better if the upper tier  seats towards the rear were elevated above the crowd in the floor. Making it more hippodrome style (I guess then it wouldn't be an "arena"). Saw Placebo in there last December and even though right near the front, the sound was good. Had a listen from the rear floor too and it sounded great. Kudos to Notts there, a lot of arenas sound shite.

As arenas go, the motorpoint is one that is always a compromise.  My last show in there was Biffy, but because of the size of the venue we could only put half the production in.  Its not really an arena, certainly in the tradiotnal sense, just a big room with a standing floor.

You know more than most. I agree with all that. I like the trade off with the Motorpoint though. In fairness though i prefer even smaller venues in Notts. Glee Club, Bodega, Rough Trade, Jam Cafe etc. All offer great intimate settings which have hosted some great bands past, present and certainly in the future, which i'm sure you know too well.

Saw Richard Thompson at Slave Trade Central last night. I can pay him no finer honour than saying he's the English Neil Young. His guitar work is ridiculous. Oysterband in a month.

I went to see Fink in Kentish Town last night. Thoroughly enjoyable evening and a good location to boot.
