If most English players had the same attitude and work rate and professionalism as Paul Scholes we would have had a much better world cup.

The bloke is football gold and no mistake.

But he never produced his Club form on the International scene.

But Man Utd have 10 class players who play along side Scholes.  England have around 4-5 tops.

Scholes is the only player in the prem without an agent IIRC, major credit to the guy, a proper traditional player, non nonsense, and even makes his kids support Oldham!

Pre-Euro 1996 Alan Shearer was nothing special for England and was getting a fair bit of criticism from the fans and media for not bringing his domestic form to international level.

and he retired from international football at the age of 29 after euro 2000. He did have a decent record.
