I may be wrong but I don't think an STFC player has scored an away hat trick since Kevin Horlock at Rovers in 95.  So they're a bit rare.  SSP only managed  perhaps 3 or 4 braces.....Fallon a couple, including the close shave at Looton when he smacked the post after scoring 2 early doors.

I recall us winning at Mansfield 5-1 around 66, when our two full backs scored in the 89th and 90th.

Not scoring  enough goals from around the team is as much a problem as non prolific strikers.

***This is by no means a criticism of Paul Sturrock - I think the guy is ace and will definitely guide us to better things.***

But this season (certainly under Dennis Wise) whether we've won, lost or drawn we've played really quite poorly. We hear the "we've got things to work on" statements and that leads to us assuming that the next game will be a much better performance but it's the same sub-standard effort as before.

Now I appreciate that a win is a win and that most of the teams we've played have just been poorer than us but in the coming month we must score more goals instead of relying on a 1-0 or 2-1 win - which is what we've done all season.

In the league pretty much everyone apart from Chester and Grimsby have ended up scratching their heads bemoaning the fact that they've not come out of the game without at least a point. I wonder if that's been the case for Walsall - I doubt it.

All this reminds me of the World Cup when we were waiting for a brilliant England performance after every dud performance - but it never came.

For me, today has a draw written all over it.

As long as we play this way and still go up - I'll take boredom all the way

I didn't say we were playing boring style - I said we were playing poorly.

Playing a boring game and getting promoted is fine.

But we will start losing more if we don't play better football whether it's boring or entertaining.

I agree Rich. Most of the games under the pygmy were pretty poor performances, the results (Quite rightly) were all we were concentrating on. Don't think Luggy will stand for it though, either the players will work his way, or be out the door.

First match under Sturrock showed what this team are capable of, just wish they showed that much in every game.

Having said all that, I think we'll put in a good performance tonight, many players have got to fight for their place after saturdays debacle.

2.1 win.
