Surely because we have appointed someone from within they are more likely to continue to keeps things as close to how they were as possibly and use most of the Dennis Wise techniques because he's seen how it works first hand?
Surely thats a better option than brining in someone new, who will have his own way of doing everything and thus taking time for everyone to settle and get on with it.
I know we promoted from within last year and it didnt work, but Iffy was dealt a losing hand.
Williams should continue the good work Wise has done, Iffy had to change the bad work King had done.
I think we all accept for finacial reasons Williams will be our next manager, but I think he's got what it takes...now it probably a few years too early for him imo...but I'm backing him and having seen the adver shortlist...I'm quite glad its him....despite having no mangerial expirences...he alot better than most of that shortlist
ummm...Adie Williams Barmy Army?

Agree with all of that I'm sure Williams will be appointed manager because he is the so often mentioned 'cheap option'. That does not mean he won't do a damned good job though.

I’d say your spot on there plastic Jesus.
He definitely deserves a handful of games to stake his claim and then as you say if it aint broke then don’t fix it.
When you’re in shit street, as we normally are, then a drastic change is for the best but we're flying high and if the players react well to his appointment then keeping that consistency is the key.
My only concern is that as an internal appointment he may not get or be able to force the sort of assurances that a big name replacement would likely demand.
I don’t fancy January coming round and he has his hand forced by the board to sell players to balance the books.

I agree with you. Let's not forget that Wise recruited Williams because he'd played with him at Coventry & he'd been impressed with his professionalism, commitment & ability. They presumably share the same core beliefs. He's also played for some credible coaches during his long career(Pardew, Coppell, Adams, etc) and already he's making encouraging noises about what he'd like to introduce to the training set-up with diet, weight training, technique & fitness identified as areas to which he'd bring something. Whilst he may be a 'cheap' option he could actually continue the improvement we've seen so far this season. Previous internal appointments have usually been at a time of crisis when the team was not performing and this has placed additional pressures on a fledgling manager. At least the current side is still at the right end of the table. I'm sure that all town fans will give him every ounce of support they can muster - I just hope the board is as supportive.

I disagree with you. I can't think of many internal appointments that have worked in the past for us. I think it adds risk in that he hasn't been anything other than a coach before now, though Barry will no doubt be a help here. I also think he is required on the pitch to keep up our promotion challenge. This may prove very difficult now his role has changed.
I feel a seasonrd appointed from externally may also focus the lads more. It is too easy to fall into the 'everything is terrible' trap mentally.
On the other hand we may get lucky and Williams may be a fantastic manager.I can see your point about continuity as well . All good managers start somewhere. Then again it may turn into another Iffy scenario. It an unknown right now.
The other thing is that we had started to get some bums on seats. A more established management name is more likely to maintain that, though it could be argued that the gates had started to dwindle since Peterborough anyway.
What will be will be. I will be behind him and the team no matter what. And I'd rather Williams than any of the other ex-players mentioned for a variety of resaons.

Yes, I share some of those worries too. However Williams has been allowed to appoint an assistant who knows this league pretty well - that should help him. The fact that the team is at the top end of the table should take some of the pressure off him & Hunter initially. However, as you say he's never had any previous managerial experience & I don't know if he's got any coaching qualifications either. He does come across as his own man though with ideas, opinions & standards of his own. Just hope the board give him the support (financial & professional) that he needs and deserves. The club have been very reticent of late. When Devlin was in place he seemed to go out of his way to keep the fans informed of developments. Suppose that now he's 'persona non-grata' we'll have to return to reading the Adver or the tea leaves, whichever is the more reliable.

I disagree with you. I can't think of many internal appointments that have worked in the past for us. But of course that's no reason for this particular appointment not to work. When Iffy took over he was placed in an almost impossible situation. Behind the scenes we were in disarray the same as we are now. Back then though, the playing side was also in complete disarray with two expensive flops up front and half a dozen loan players. Anyone would struggle in that position. Given a level playing field I am sure Iffy could have done a good job. Adi takes over with the playing side at least (thanks to Dennis and Gus) in much, much better shape. Unless our esteemed Board fuck him over completely and insist on players being sold in the transfer window I am sure Adi will do a great job for us.

Yes the playing staff are very much better than when Iffy took over. We may get promoted this sesaon under Adie.
The next problem I have is unless something changes we will have a piss poor budget again next season as per last season. Is Adie going to have the knowledge, contacts and skills to get the most out of what remains and also to bring in the new players required.
The answer could be an emphatic yes, but again it's risky.

Probably true but he did join Man Utd after winning a European trophy with Aberdeen. I'm not fully conversant with Adie Williams CV but I don't think it includes any European trophies. Not yet anyway but if he's still in charge next season and we defend the Copa Ibiza, well, who knows?

I'm with you on that one! The concern with supporting Swindon Town is that every silver lining comes wrapped in a cloud. I mean, do you know what any of our board looks like? Apart from the boy Carson I couldn't describe to you what any of the Directors look like, I have never seen a photo or heard them speak about affairs at the club. Consequently like you I'm not sure how ambitious and determined they are that this club regains its place in League One or higher. If we're still in contention for a promotion place come January when the transfer window re-opens, will they help Williams (or whoever is in charge by then) strengthen the team? I can't put my hand on my heart and say an unequivocal yes, can you?
