"A Fantastic Start"

Dennis Wise spoke to the press after seeing his side take all three points at Darlington on Saturday, but urged caution after Town went top of the table.

Goals from Paul Evans and Christian Roberts earned Town their fourth win on the trot - something that delighted the manager - not that he was going to get too carried away.

Speaking at the 96.6TFM Arena, he gave his thoughts on the victory.

"It was a hard battle towards the end but in the first half we could have been three or four goals in front.

"I was pleased with the way we defended and the way we approached our set pieces. Paul Evans took his goal well and has a fantastic right foot. He can whip the ball round a wall and did just that.

"It was also good to see Christian get off the mark - he only has nineteen to go now until he gets a holiday. That was a good team goal and we told Monky to get the defence before the game and he did just that with a great ball in for the goal.

"Jamie Vincent was very disappointed with the goal we conceded and he put his hand up at the break. However, we have some strong characters in the dressing room now and coped with it. I told them at half-time that the second half would be tough but all credit to them, they went out there and we emerged with the win.

"I feel we are making progress and it's been a fantastic start for us to the season. There is a long way to go but as I have said before it's a marathon not a sprint."

Wise also indicated that there will be several changes to the Town line-up for Tuesday's Carling Cup First Round encounter with Brentford at The County Ground.

"Andy Monkhouse has some ice on his hamstring and he won't figure on Tuesday against Brentford but there will be other changes. Aaron Brown will start the game which will give him an opportunity to impress."

I'm going to judge him on his post-twatty behaviour performances.

He's on the payroll so we might as well get along with it. (Wise would have got rid of him otherwise)

i've not seen a great deal of evidence of this.

i'm not particularly thrilled, but i'm willing to give him a chance but he must impress.

from what i've seen, stroud has been better than both of them in his first team outings. monkhouse will improve, i'm sure of that, and he's not got a shitty attitude either.

generally they're pretty good players and stay at the club against their will, not because nobody else wants them. any player who tells a fan that he doesn't want to stay at a club because "they're shit" has a long way to go to redeem themselves.

on the performance he gave against yeovil in the reserves, he looks as though his attitude has improved and is willing to work for his place in the team. on that basis, with monkhouse out and the cup game coming up, this is the perfect opportunity to give him a chance. however, if his performance is not a notable improvement on last season and he shows any unwillingness to work hard then he can fuck right off.

it's his chance to shine and prove his detractors wrong, this will be his second and final chance for me.

Pah...and what do King and Iffy know...

...but of course King was gone before Brown got here....

So what does Iffy know really....

Like people keep saying, that one performance away at Huddersfield by Stroud was awesome, on that performance alone I want to see him given another chance...Although only one game, that one performance was better than anything Brown did last season.
