New Plymouth Argyle boss Ian Holloway is attempting to persuade young midfielder Dean Marney to quit Tottenham for a fresh start at Home Park.

Marney looked set to have a real chance of making the grade at White Hart Lane after hitting a brace in a 5-2 home win over Everton on New Year's Day 2005.

He had already put in the groundwork during loan spells at Swindon, QPR - where Holloway was in charge - and Gillingham.

After the Everton game, Spurs boss Martin Jol described him as a "complete player" but he failed to impress in his future outings for the north London club and had an unhappy loan spell at Norwich during their bleak start to last season.

That was cut short by an Achilles injury and the 22-year-old needs to get his career back on track.

However, whether Holloway can convince him his future lies at Argyle remains to be seen.
