Yep,it was always going to happen, batting last was always going to be trouble Sad  Our inability to stay in has been a problem for the last few series.Bring back Boycott Wink
Both KP and Fred are carrying injuries too.

Having not played much cricket, it is it really that hard for modern English players to bat like a Boycott?

The thing is the England players would say the game has changed, which of course it has,now a run rate of four an over is what most teams seem to aim for, they want to play quick exciting cricket.Which is brilliant BUT we seem to forget that its a test, not a odi,so time is on your side, the players seem unable to change their style of batting.

We weren't ever very likely to win anyway,it would have been one of the biggest run chases ever against a team with a freaky spin genius on a wearing pitch, not very likely even with Sir Geoff in the team.

I dont think that the batsmen can be totally  blamed for this result, It was always on the cards when an average spinner like Monty can take 5 wickets and then the Sri lankans wheel out Muri , the pitch was getting worse and as someone has already said ,batting last and chasing a big total was always going to be difficult. Time to relieve Freddie of the captaincy, get Virgil and Harmy fit , find a wicket keeper that can bat ! and we will be good again .

I thought missing the run chase because of 4 hours of exam this arvo was a bad thing. Can't wait to see Monty bat on the hilights though  Cool
