Anyone know roughly what our current wage bill is?

Just read that Watford have the fourth lowest in the Championship at £3.5 million per year.  It would be interesting to see how we stand by comparison.

I'm probably being extremely naive here, but i'd imagine it was somewhere between £800k-£500k p/a, as a guesstimation. Method to the madness....

If the average wage for the squad was around £500p/w ---> £2000p/m ----> £24,000p/a. Around 20 contracted players, so 20 x 24,000 = £480,000p/a on wages.

If it was more like £800p/w ---> £3,200p/m ----> £38,400p/a. 20 x 38,400 = £768,000p/a on wages.

Obviously, there will be a few players earning double the average, but that'll be offset by the loanees/youth teamers in the squad. Can't see it being much more than that anyway.

But, of course, this is all complete guesswork, and has been posted as a timewaster while i'm meant to be working, so is probably best ignored Cheesy

EDIT: Of course, i'm talking pre-Wise/Poyet/anybody else that has/is joining over the Summer

Pieman, does that £2.7 m wage bill figure include playing staff, coaching staff, backroom staff etc or just first team players?

That's fairly impressive from Watford's point of view considering they're not far operating our bargain bucket trough.  Plus food for thought what can be achieved on a budget not a million miles from touching distance.

It is a couple of seasons ago, but we did spend more than a fair few teams.

In 2001/2002 our wage bill was £2,892,162 but that's for all of the 82 staff we were employing, 69 players, coaches, administration and ground staff and 13 commercial activity staff.
