I can answer that Reg

Alan Pardew is what is going on

I know Pardew is a prize cunt, but I'm wondering what has happened to the talent....in the past young North East boys would often start elsewhere like Shearer and Bryan Robson...now though there just doesn't seem to be the talent coming out. I wonder why?

I thought Keegan, the great messiah decided to ditch all the reserve teams / youth teams etc so he could have all the money to build a competitive premier league team.  So that's probably what happened.  No investment in youth = a reliance on expensive foreigners.

Often though, the talent like Shearer, Beardsley etc would come through local football and go elsewhere, to make their name. I might be missing something here, but I'm hard pressed to think of any Geordie boys in the England squad.

MBoro, had a bit of a go at developing locals, and produced a few like Downing and Adam Johnson...also the likes of Woodgate was a Smoggie.

If I was a North Easterner, I'd like to see my club as something like Real Sociedad, not quite as fundamentalist as Bilbao, but committed to mostly local players with a few imports to strengthen.

I was the Newcastle fan that wrote it, and yes it was self indulgent, (pretentious bollocks) that's what blogs are. It wasn't meant for Sunderland's Message board any more than it was meant for Swindon Town's. And not that anyone should give a fat one, my Grandfather fought in Operation Shingle at 'Peter Beach' just north of Anzio in 1944.

Perspective.

Given you put the article into the public domain, what you intended is irrelevant. Kudos to your grandfather but that doesn't negate any criticism a public article invites.

Newcastle United has become a Sports Direct bolt on. I'm ashamed of the club I love for many reasons but the importing of foreign players is not one of them, wherever they come from. Of course I bemoan the passing of that era but I guess the thinking behind the NUFC strategy is to get a decent scout *ahem* to scour the French league, spot potential, make the equivalent of a £1 bet, coach them up and cash in when the price reaches what the non-footballing owner reckons meets his obscene asking price. And although he wasn't a product of such a strategy, Asley's still jizzing over Andy Carroll and he tried to make a killing over Cabaye most recently. So I'm thinking of starting a campaign where, instead of boycotting the club bars, shops and merchandise we should be helping the fat ba*tard make back his money as quickly as possible so he can sell up like he wants, and f*ck right off back to Spurs where he belongs with JFK. It's more of a 'hotheaded bed' now I think.

Couple more good results, of course, and we'll forget all about that. AGAINST MOD£RN FOOTBALL.

Premier League football is now a commodity like any other, and consumers should treat it as such. If the product is crap...switch to one more appealing....go on you'll feel better for doing it.

The whole regional production line seems to have stopped, there used to be a whole stream of lads who had come through the Wallsend Boys Club (I recall from when I lived up there that they had an old boy at every world cup for a period of time), but not sure if they are coming through now - although they may be in the lower leagues?

Saxondale had it right. The reserve team got dismantled and the youth set up  neglected at Newcastle under the Keegan era and as a result the club started missing out on any local talent that was coming through, which instead went south to the Mackems and Boro.

I'm not sure how much resource and effort they put into youth development now, but since 2010(?) (when they poached him from Spurs) the club seems to have been totally reliant on Alan Carr's dad (former Northampton manager Graham) who's their chief scout, and his knowledge of and contacts in the French league, to bring in 1st team ready talent at relatively bargain prices. What Kinnear does for his money I don't know.

Neither the 'Director of Football' nor the 'owner' of Newcastle United was at the Harper testimonial on Wednesday evening. Fortunately there were 50 000 others there to properly represent the club.

This forum prides itself on it 80% bollocks content - any old bollocks will do, pretentious or otherwise, so long as the quota is met.
