Basically he isn't happen that the story seems to suggest he has asked for a deal and apparently he hasn't.

No he isn't. Or at least not from that quote - on the basis of what you've quoted above, he's saying the story is fine, but the headline is inaccurate. And let's be honest it's not the first time (it's about the gazillionth) that the sub-eds have concocted a headline that completely distorts (or even is 100% contrary to) the otherwise accurate report. Sam needs to have a word, methinks

confusion here is digby is annoyed at the headline
that's on the back page of the physical paper

it reads

"hand me a deal"

conveniently they've changed it for the online edition
