Being brought up close to Brize Norton these were an ever present part of my childhood, bloody noisy things but always viewed with affection.

Flew from Brize to Oman in the  mid 70s in  VC10 - surprised it's been in service for so long.

Much more comfortable than the Hercules I flew back in - boneshaker that fecker

Did an experience flight in a 'stripped out' VC10 from Brize Norton up to the West Coast of Scotland and back in the 80s.  On return to Brize they didn't tell us they were going to do an exercise aborted landing and take-off.  Very 'exhilerating' it was too!  The crew thought it was very funny.

Similarly I did my work experience at ATC Brize in 1990, after about 3 days they ran out of things for us to do and we were instead put on a VC10 training flight and spent an afternoon doing 'circuits and bumps' around Brize!

'Indulged' on a couple of funbuses. Always felt strange flying backwards, but always felt safe with the Riff-Raf !

Flew Brize to Aldergrove in 1982 as my first deployment to N.I. on the 'Funbus'.

Happy days.

Oh yes. I had forgotten about the backward facing seats.  They explained that it was 'safer' but I couldn't see that it would make much difference which way you were facing if the worst came to the worst!

It was in case the worst thing that DID happen wasn't the worst thing that COULD happen.
