For me, I don't think any shitty away day could beat the 87 game when we denied them a playoff place as they missed a late penalty. Baking hot day, thousands of town fans on the open terrace & the shitty fans went mental at the final whistle. I think Lou and 'Gypsy' Dave Bamber got a slap during the pitch invasion at the end. Outside after the game was as close to a full scale riot as I've ever seen. I have a mate who supports them who says it still ranks high up on the list of the worst days of his life! Cheesy

Remember the '87 game well. The Joe Jordan dive for the penalty...and the Gordon Owen miss, which he repeated in the FRT final at Wembley a few weeks later.

Remember it well, got in early sunbathing on the terrace then massive ruck in park out the back after game, coaches bricked, anyone would have thought we had upset them somehow!

The ironic thing in 87 was the Town fans singing Gillingham at the shitty fans, because us stopping them winning let the Pikeys into the play-offs.   Can't imagine the pikeys doing the same in reverse.

Then we played them in the league cup the following season, with Gordon Owen being sent off at the CG & us winning 3-0. City were 2 up very early in the second leg, and if I remember rightly they then missed another Pen (well Diggers saved it). We ended up losing 3-2 on the night but going through on aggregate.
We were sat in the Dolman stand that night, was a fairly decent ruck that night as well, although nowhere near as bad as the season before.

Denying them the play offs was classic. We had one hell of a mob that day but it was fuck all compared to what was waitng for us. I don't think Gordon Owen appreciated his name being sang by Town for a couple of seasons after.  I know people who had to have a police escort back to their car at 6 - it was still kicking off. The next season was good fun in the Cup as well as Posh has said. i got a job in Brizzle in 88 and on a casual wear day worse my Town shirt and it was great fun bneing called a cunt 100 times in Broadmead and the staff restaurant - absoltely loved it.
The 4-0 was bloody great as well - in the Brizzle end for that as didn't know it was all ticket for Town. A lot of town took a slap that day as there were loads of us in the Brizzle ends. Chlakie wound them up a treat as well.

The official gate for that game was about 19,000 I think but it had to be closer to 30,000.

Not as good as the 4-0 win at Trashton Gate in 91 when Hazard, White 2 and Shearer scored! now that was an awesome game!

I remember on the Friday night before that 4-0 game on HTV, City's Mark Aizelwood was interviewed alongside Chalkie on HTV News by Roger Malone. Aizelwood pronounced that City had Swindon's diamond system sussed. Chalkie had the last laugh and the Roger Malone baiting in the background as we were kept in the ground on the Post Match interview with Chalkie was legendary.

Looks like City might pull off the great escape with their win against Coventry

Living in Bedminster now I no longer have that issue... But yes, I wholeheartedly agree.

Glad to hear of a fellow exile - I was born in Stratton but have been in Bristol since 78. I remember Cole bagging 2 for City before he moved (back?) to the Arseholes  (or was it Newcastle?). He was QUCK.
