Author Topic: David Lucas Linked With Ipswich?  (Read 2172 times)

Pub manager from Ipswich (I work for a pub co) called me and said that Roy Keane is interested in David Lucas as Arran Lee-Barrett is Ipswich only goalkeeper after Brian Murphy got injured against Leicester. Not sure any truth in it but thought I would pass it on? Makes sense I guess as Ipswich are knackered for Keepers after Shane Supple retired in the summer? Hope its not true although Phil Smith is more than capable of covering if Lucas was to go?

That would be a big loss, he has been superb this year. Unless they offer a lot of money...

It's Roy Keane, if it were true i wouldn't be surprised for it to be a new record fee received. They'll probably throw in Connor Wickham as a sweetner as well.

Um...yeah. Except that Brian Murphy's only out for two weeks and Keane's said they won't be signing anyone to cover for him:

Smith is not good enough to step up. good enough to be back up, but not number one.

I'd have full faith in Smith if Lucas went/got injured.

In the limited games he's played this season its clear he's not the same keeper he was last season and the new coach has done him wonders, infact he'd probably tell you that if you ask.

I pointed that out in pre-season. He's a much more decisive keeper now. He's more communicative, has more varied and quicker distribution and is generally a far better keeper than he was under the tail end of the other keeping coach. So yeah Smith is good enough should he be required.
