Police Apologise to Fans - Shock!

No, your eyes don’t deceive you, this actually happened. Forgive us for blowing our own trumpets, but it’s not as if the police are going to do it for us on this occasion

Last week saw an almost unprecedented apology from one of the country’s top policemen to a group of football supporters. Ian Hopkins, Assistant Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police (GMP), attended a Fans Forum to personally apologise for the treatment of fans by his officers.

The Football Supporters Federation stands up for fans across the country, and it’s good to see that our work is beginning to pay off. We'll work on HMRC, but as for the clean sheet - we're good, but we're not miracle workers

I went to Sunderland, a midweek game a few years ago. There were about 200 away fans there. Sunderland had a shot that went wide of the post so a few of us stood up with our arms out and this policeman comes over and says 'do that again and you'll all be arrested'.

It is just zero tolerance up there.

Section 27 is an unjust law. A good example of how bad legislation can come out of a freak event (a Scottish team reaching a European final!).

My biggest gripe at the moment is the fudging of ground regulations and law by stewards. Standing up to watch a corner at Leeds last season the stewards were saying sit down, you are breaking the law. Absolute rubbish. We kicked it off with Scunthorpe stewards and police last season when they wouldnt leave about 200 away fans alone.
