There's been a fair bit of chat about the redevelopment but to leave that aside for one minute - I think it'd be awesome to have World Cup teams training at the CG.

Don't get me wrong, I know it's not the games but it'd be ace to have the teams staying around Swindon and training at our home. I'd be chuffed and really proud for STFC to be a part of this.

Not just for the club but the town, region and kids in the build up to 2018.

My mate who knows more about these things and has been following the bid says Bristol has a very good chance due to location and apparently if they/England get the bid then they could host any club in the world including Brazil - just depends on the draw. So the best countries won't be limited just to London and Manchester but could be training at the CG. Mint.

I'll definitely back Bristol's bid as it's about time STFC was a part of something major like this.

The idea that a ground redevelopment in Swindon would hinge on a couple of training sessions taking place at the ground in 9 years time is farcical...a complete non sequitur.  If anyone from Swindon wants to back Bristol City's bid to host World Cup games, then good luck to them.  But I really don't see what this has to do with STFC.

Our ground redevelopment will happen eventually, regardless of whether any World Cup games take place 40 miles up the road (which, for a variety of reasons, I suspect they will not.)

Welcome to the TEF, by the way.

Thanks Smiley

My issue isn't the stadium at all. I hope that goes ahead whatever and I'm not sure it's a case of linking the two so closely - though at a guess the carrot of being part of the bid may be a bit of a help.

But assuming the ground is done well then I just think it'd be great to have this taking place here.

Obviously the World Cup has got nothing do with whether the ground improvements happen or not. But I'm sure the prospect of hosting one of the teams if we get the World Cup would be appealing to the council and so helps sway things in favour of the club a little bit (only a little bit though).

Don't see why we'd get crap countries. Smallest venue at last World Cup hosted England and Croatia in the group stages and Portugal vs Netherlands in the second round. Besides which at 44,000 I can't imagine Bristol's new ground will be the smallest anyway. I think Kaiserslauten was about 43,000 and that hosted Italy and Spain.

All depends on the draw but I know Bristol are aiming for a Quarter-Final match too so that could be some seriously good teams.

I imagine we'd be one of the best training locations they have too as there aren't many professional footy clubs.

I think you are.

PS  I think people might start to suspect you're a City fan soon.  Try a being a little more subtle, perhaps.
