Noble was a craftsman in the same way that Alan Gilzean was at Spurs, delicate glancing stuff rather that OST rocketry....remember PN bagging a brace at Pompey, early 70's in a 2-1 win, with a couple of glancing headers from Rogers' crosses.
Pat Terry was the best centre forward header of a ball I've seen at the CG...like OST, he would stick his head on anything, and could do glances as well as bullets.
For some reason a brace he scored at the CG in 67 in front of 17000+ when we stuffed Reading 5-1 sticks in my mind....think it was because it was under lights, when the atmosphere at the CG used to be electric on a big night.
Sadly those days have gone, although when we were 2-1 up on QPR, the TE felt ready for lift off...just a shame we screwed up again.
I remember that game against Reading - first evening game that I went to with mates from school rather than with my Dad and Uncle .I think the atmosphere was enhanced that night by the Reading fans burning their flags and causing general mayhem!
Agree about Pat Terry - best header of the ball I've seen at the CG
Best headed goal ?- Frank Burrows vs Hull at the Town End goal in 69/70(?) - came up for a corner and headed the ball so hard that it got stuck between the net and the stanchion !
