The kids have been put into foster care haven't they?
Long term they might be better off.

I just think the punishment part of sentence is by far the least important, behind acting as a deterrent to stop other people doing the same, and in the case of imprisonment, for the safety of the public.
I find the vitriolic hatred of people in cases like this quite saddening to be honest. Karen Matthew might be greedy, a bad mother, a bit thick, and possibly not a very nice person, but I don't want a womb removed, or her given a lethal injection, or anything else permanent.
She will be ok in prison though...cushy for her,i can understand certain crimes because of drug abuse or general shit in a persons life...but to manipulate the police her friends and more importantly lock up and drug her own daughter tends to make me think that locking her up isnt really a punishment for lowlife like her.

Yeah. They're obviously really quiet on where she is, protection from the media and all that, I imagine some of the press would have no problem with stalking her for a story. The last I heard was on the radio around the time of the trial when they were interviewing the social services involved (why didn't they take the children away sooner, stuff like that), they said that she was with a foster family and doing well, but obviously wouldn't say any more when questioned.

I hope she is with someone nice how can care for her probably and treat her to nice things - I hope she is young enough to forget the horrid things.

There is a media ban in place as she is under 16 and the judge ordered a wide restriction on her location/state etc as is the case with Maxine Carr.

You can hope Charlotte, but frankly it is very unlikely. Most young children that suffer some form of trauma (and I strongly suspect from her ordeal that Shannon did) through abuse/neglect have significant attachment disorders with adults, however much love & care adults try to provide. We don't really know what her life at home was like before this ordeal, but one can only assume that given she was one of seven kids, she wasn't really shown a great deal of love and affection by her parent(s) anyway.
