Perfection is not attainable

i installed a new fan on my comp last week. Nice big 120mm jobby to suck some fresh cool air into the case.

Trouble is it ran @ 1800rpm and sounded like a jet engine. It wasn't until i found the box in the cardboard recycling that i found the missing resistor which came with it. Now happily running @ 900rpm.

JJ, What's your views on this little cheap number

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/JandW-X48D2-EXTREME-P-Sok-775-PCI-E-20-(x16)-DDR2-800-1066-1200(OC)-SATA300-SATA-RAID-ATX

looks good for Crossfire @ x16!!!!

I am lucky I use an Antec 1200 case so the throughput of air is vast with 1 200mm fan on top 2 x 120mm fans at the back and 3 x 120mm fans at the front and all have a 3 speed setting so they run really quiet.

As for the X48 mobo Magic....Save your money and get the I45 TPower
http://www.bbc.co.uk/threecounties/content/images/2006/01/11/rentaghost__470_04_470x353.jpg
Got full crossfire...the X48 is no faster than the P45 and has crossfire...costs £35 less and the reviews are fantastic, the best overclocker on the market at the moment, can overclock up to 600mhz FSB which equates to around 5200ghz!

I am going to stick one on in my next build for a customer to try it...I will keep you informed!

It does indeed but I doubt you would ever notice any decernable difference in x8 and x16 in the real world, I may be wrong but I will have a look around at some benchmarks first before deciding.

yeah i'll do some searching later.

i'm slowly upgrading my system and was thinking about i7 but not sure the performance gains really warrent spending almost £700 on a new board, cpu and ram!!!!

was thinking £150 on new card and £150 on new board.
But doing that i'm not sure if my E8400 @ 3.8ghz would bottleneck the cards?

I dont think the E8400 will bottleneck at all especially at 3.8ghz, the E8400 will only bottleneck if you do sever multithreaded multitasking.

But then again the Q8200 will easily hit 3.6 to 3.8ghz on a good mobo and is available for around £150 or for £20 or so more get the 2.55ghz Q8300 quad core......a sweet overclocker.

Huh??

Sorry, was mocking your use of multiple exclamation marks.

BTW, do either of you know of a free anti virus tool that will install on Windows Server 2008? After trying AVG, Avast and Kaspersky I am thinking I might have to install an enterprise version. Any ideas?

I have heard F-Secure Anti Virus but I have not sued it but have heard its not bad and not as memory intensive as most.
