I suspect I will watch the play-off finals but the Mrs is on about she wants to go shopping.....so maybe I should cook up a ploy to moan at every shop she goes into so she'll get fed up and then I can be home in time for kick off

Why dont you just say

"I'm the fucking man of the house and what I say round here fucking goes ok ?. If you want to go shopping then fine, but spend your own money ! I'm watching the footie. Oh and can you put those beers in the fridge before you go!"

Alternatively, do what I did and get divorced !
