i did! It said i had to reset my computer for the super antispyware softwareto take effect, so i pressed yes. Then dazza said i had to press f8, and that buggered it up. I kept restarting it by holding the on button down for ages so i guess that couldn't have done it much good in the long run

I was on about that.

Anyway I'd try safe mode again. All that happened is that you were supposed to reboot your machine to normal mode first, to complete the installation, but you went to safe mode and it went a bit wrong. Safe mode should work now.

Just reinstall the the software now. It's not hard, just like a normal bit of software. Once you've done that runb a scan. If it fixes it then great, if not try the safe mode trick.
